I've never heard of removing battery to remove a virus any thing is possable?

have you tried removal with a utility?
or you can,try to overwrite by using FDISK/MBR but you will need a disk editor of course this is not recomended partitions can double and then your in trouble.

Thats a pretty ruff virus you got there.go to this site post back if it no help http://www.computerhope.com/monkey.htm

I had the same virus on my computer. (Stoned empire monkey)
I formatted my hard drive with a clean copy of the disk manager that I downloaded from the hard disk manufacturer's site. Make sure your boot up disks are not infected. Mine were ....all nine of them. That is why I was getting frustrated, since I never knew that those were infected too. I cleaned them out with Norton. Use a disk manager and you will have no problem. Hope this will help.I do have copies of different disk managers. I could email you if you would like.

Try going to bootdisk.com and downloading f-prot virus scanner. You use a write protected floppy and boot to it. It will scan all your drives and memory and clean out just about any virus. Try reloading your bios after the scan too.
