Hey All
Got a question.
I recently reinstalled Win XP Pro and until now everything has been running perfect.
The problem is my mouse cursor or should I say the movement.
While trying to move the cursor anywhere I notice some hesitation
in it's moves across the screen.
I could go into detail of the contents of my PC, but for the time I would like to see if anyone has experienced similar issues running XP.
I have a feeling that it is time for an extensive upgrade since the components of my system are running on 2+ years with the exception of the NVidia 128 mg video card I installed this past Chistmas.
If you need to know my PC layout I will be more than happy to provide the info.
Any thoughts?
An FYI, I game alot "Quake3Arena" and during gameplay I do not see the hesitation. But yesterday trying to preview some old dics's that I burn and for got to name them..errr...I did notice that the CPU went off the scales while the CD Rom was trying to read, but as well I tried to input the CD's into the CD Burner I have and the CPU was fine.
Could a bad CD Rom be interferring with my system while the CD Rom is idle?
Thanks

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

There are a lot of different reasons a mouse can hesitate, including just needing to clean it. You also probably need to check your mouse settings in Control Panel. If you are using a wireless mouse, you may need to move the transmitter. Without knowing what you are using, it is hard to know where to start....

I am not sure what you are saying about the CPU going off the scales. If you mean it was really active, that would be true while doing something like reading a CD or moving files. If you mean it got really hot, you have a serious problem. Please explain more.

A 2 year old PC should be fine for WinXP. How much RAM are you using?

As Budfred stated, it's normal for the CPU to go to 100% usage when a CD-ROM drive is reading a CD.
However, a CD-ROM drive also scans for a CD every few seconds if its 'Auto Insert Notification' feature is enabled in Device Manager. And if your computer has a hard drive activity LED, then you should notice it blinking every few seconds with AIN enabled.
You can disable this feature and see if that solves your mouse problem.
If it does, then you will have to manually start your program CD's by going to My Computer, right click on your CD-ROM drive, click Explore, and double click on a .exe file which starts the program.

If doing the above does not fix things, then another thing to try is to shut down all unnecessary programs running in the background.

Also, is the mouse using the Win XP supplied driver, or an XP compatible driver from the mouse manuf.?

I think part of your problem is the fact that unless you have gone and tamed XP you would need a monster system (2+ GHz CPU, 1024MB RAM etc) to have ALL the eyecandy and features of XP run without causing any kind of slow dowan/performance loss.

Try trimming down on some of the UI features and some services.....
