Putting together a Pentium 133, 64Mb sdram, Orchid vid card.
Fdisk went well, Format went well, Try to install Win95.
Starts to read 95 disk, after scandisk get an error "Standard mode: Invaled DPMI return from 036f:08ff". Unable to continue with install.
I can do a DIR from DOS and see all of 95 disk.
Any ideas??? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

After further testing and trying, I think it is a bunk MOBO.
Random freezes during Fdisk, Format, Scandisk, etc.... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif
Ram seems to be good as it will POST regularly (most times). I don't think heat is an issue as it will continue to function for a while after reset. No consistancy to the problems except for the DPMI.
Thanks gang

Try swapping out the power supply.....a lot of unstable conditions can be traced to there....

Bass,
Stuff I was reading was saying the Standard Mode does not support DPMI. It also referred to take a look at the Setup.Txt on the 95 disk.
Here's the site:www.fixwindows.com Check under Windows 95 Setup errors.
The exact error message is posted there and points to the setup.txt on the 95 disk. Essentially says that this error, along with some others, occur when setup runs into conflict with the memory manager, says t remove any mention of Memory Manager in Config and Autoexec...not sure how that would happen if it is a fresh installation but I'm in way over my head! LOL

Bass,
If what I found for you works would you post back and explain WHY? I would have furnished the exact link rather than the home page, but for some very weird reason I cannot copy and paste into the HTML post boxes using the commands under edit (have AOL). Just found yesterday that the function does work if I use the keystrokes (Cont+V). I've been on the phone with AOL tons of times, and I don't think it's in their scripts...so they eventually give up...Thank me for using AOL...but wish I'd go away and just be content I can get on the Internet! LOL
I'm so excited I needed to tell someone!!!! I could do it through Netscape or IE outside of AOL...it was just inconvenient. Will wonders never cease...

Whyzman,
The link to the homepage is just fine. It gives me a chance to see other resources on the site. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
As for "copy and paste" in AOL, just highlight it in the address bar, copy from there and it should work. I use AOL too and that is the way I do it. Never had a prob.
As for the fix, haven't got that far yet but have other problems I would like to bring to light and see if anyone recognizes something.
1) the freezes I mentioned happen during Fdisk (can't complete) and when I restart or cold boot it seems to get further,....but not always.
2)Has anyone ever seen Post that counts the RAM 3 times???? Happens every time and sometimes freezes during this.
Again, me thinks MOBO is bad http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

Just read the Kingston Memory Guide and that sounds like bad Memory. One of the indicators was memory counting recycling.
I copy as you indicated, but it will not paste in AOL. Didn't work on my office comp either. It only happens like when I attempt to paste into this post box...or any other fill in the blank. If I'm on eBay posting an auction item and in the describe item box...cannot simply paste in. I can copy in AOL IE and then open IE on my desktop and clipboard will paste in there, or Netscape. Weird!
At least I have the solution with the keystrokes now!
