even when there would be no battery at all the system should start
and give you the message you´ve described. I have some experience
in PC repairs, and seems like you have a loose memmory module or
that one memmod is malfunctioning. Remember that they are very vulnerable
to the static. Try testing your system with one module at a time to meke sure if thats not your problem.
Also pay attention to your HD, if you are using screws too large they may
touch the disk and cause a mayor failure. Check it.

Sometimes people can get a little too complicated over such a simple issue. Even if there were a bad memory module, the systemwould still boot. The problem it sounds to me has to do with video. Check to make sure that when you were installing this new battery, you did not accidentally knock you video card loose. Also check to make sure that your monitor is securely plugged into the card.

Hi classicsoftware, jenonimo and mcse tech. thanks for your reply.

CMOS setup, I have spare memmory so i use the new one still no change,
Hard drive tight with small screws. I have checked vedio card that is looks
OK, but i have a spare one so changed that still no change only blank screen. the spare vedio card and memmory is working in other system.

i guess that if you dont have any other idea of what could
cause your problem, trial and error is the way to go.
First check all the connections, specially the power connectors
that feeds (suplies?) the motherboard, if you have an AT make sure that the dark cables of the two connectors get together in the middle. If you have an ATX theres no way to make a mistake with the connector since theres only one. Look for damages in the cables.
Also try a different monitor and/or VGA cable, check the pins of the connector to be straight.
Try removing all your cards but the Video Card and see what happens.
If nothing works, DONT hit the case whit a hammer, that never works,
post again.
