I have Windows Xp home installed on my computer now and I am wanting to install Linux Redhat. My 80gig hard drive only has on partition on it for windows xp right now and I am not sure of a way to shrink the other partition without losing files. Thanks

Repartitioning your hard disk with Windows XP will result in complete loss of all programs and data in the original partition.
The only way I know of to add a partition and keep the data in the original partition is by using Partition Magic.

What I did was to backup
[to CD-RW disks using "Simple Backup"]
then re-partition [and re-format of course]
[making certain that the C: partition was big enough to hold the files],
then restore the backup.

Or you could just buy another HD for $30-40.
