System Specs:
ECS k7AMA Ver. 1.0 Mobo
Athlon Duron 1.0 GHZ
512 DDR
Win XP Pro
Radeon Sapphire 9600 pro / Geforce 2 MX 200 (I'll explain in a little)

Ok so I've never updated my bios since I got that motherboard a couple years ago. This past August I bought a 9600 pro to replace my Geforce 2 crap. Things worked fine, all new games ran awesome. Recently I got NHL 2004, and had kind of a graphic glitch. I searched the web and through that saw that upgrading my bios may fix it.
It made things much much worse because I did it with the wrong file. Worst of all I didnt backup my old bios file.
When I restarted my computer, no screen came on, 2 short beeps came, followed by 11 steady beats, and three more short ones for a total of 14. I tried switching back to my Geforce 2 also an AGP card, and worked. My computer loaded fine.
I tried going back to the Radeon, same results, so went back to the Geforce 2 to update the bios with the correct file. It did it right but now more problems created.

All of my compenents: Primary Master(HDD), Primary Slave, Secondary Master, and Secondary slave, all appear as uninstalled. The bios does not detect my harddrive, dvd rom, or cd rw. I've tried clearing the cmos, same results. I've downloaded several bios updates for my motherboard, all which installed correctly but have the same problem. Cannot detect anything in the bios, except the floppy drive.

Right now I'm not worried about getting the Radeon working but the computer itself and I've run out of ideas to try. My harddrive, cdrom, memory sticks, could not have just gone bad could they. Not just like that.
I'm outta ideas guys, if you have any suggestions please post them and apologies for the length.

Ok guys, I just saw one of the board's jumpers missing,(must of pulled it off accidently) and put it back, and the bios detects everything correctly now and loads fine with the Geforce 2 MX in.

Now I tried the Radeon 9600 pro again, and still get the 14 beeps, with no screen, no detection of floppy. I hope something hasnt happened to the card when changing the bios, is it possible I changed the bios on the video card or something like that?

Did you uninstall all the drivers for the GeForce before installing the Radeon? Which version of the Catalyst drivers did you use? Have you updated your chipset drivers recently? Do you have another computer to try the Radeon in?

Thanks for the reply, when I got the new Radeon card, I formatted my computer so nothing remained. I also had the latest catalyst drivers, dont remember the exact version but am 100% sure they are the newest ones.

I do rememeber and forgot to tell you guys, is that I downloaded a bios update for the card at squeakfix.com and thats what caused the problems, I'm pretty sure, cause the card wont function correctly now. Is there anyway I can revert it back to its old setting?

Ok, so the problem here is not with the motherboard's BIOS, but rather, the video card's BIOS?

Hmmm, guess you could try flashing back to a previous version of the card's BIOS, if you can find it. Otherwise, looks like you may have to use the older GF2 until you can get a newer one.

Is there any help available at squeakfix.com? Have you checked ATI's forums to see if there are similar problems?

Just so you know, most people don't update their video card's BIOS. Those who do are extreme overclockers (risk-takers by default) so reliability isn't their strong point. :p I would complain at that website if you didn't see a million warnings about the video BIOS and what can happen if things awry.

For instance, there's a BIOS floating around for the Radeon 9700 that will clock it at Pro speeds. However, my friend has a 9700 that couldn't possibly go that high (the RAM isn't up to the task) so if he were to flash his video card's BIOS, he would have a very expensive and broken Radeon 9700. I hope you haven't done this to your 9600 Pro because his Radeon is also a Saphire.
