I picked up a Gigabyte 686lx2 motherboard the other day. I hooked it all up and when I press the power button I get 2 beeps and it shuts down. It sometimes beeps 3 or 2.5 times before it shuts down. To restart it I have to unplug it and turn it on and off then plug it back in. I have tries this MB on 3 different cases with power supplies from 250-350 watts. I have tried many different memory from pc 66-100-100ECC-133 with no sucsess. All I have in the case right now is one PII-300, 64 megs PC100 ECC Dram, a diamond viper pci video card and a keyboard. I still get the same result, I have tried with a hard drive, mouse and still the same result. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong, hopefully my mb isn't toast.

Somewhere on this website there is a place you can look up beep codes. That's the first thing I would do.

might be a parity error: reseat your ram: if that doesn't work if you have more than 1 bank of ram take out the first bank of ram and move the second bank to the firsts banks slot leave the first ban k out & power up to test it may have bad simm ? Dimm? If the ram you had in bank two works fine in bank one's slot then the ram that was in one is bad which i'm sure you have tried if you got an exta Mobo try it other than that MOBO is most likly refried beans http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

What have I gotten my self Into now (ROFLMAO)
I would also get the manual (if one didn't come with the board checkhere (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/support/mdiscontinued.htm)) and check to see if the jumpers are properly configured.

the mjc suggestion is quite logic, so I´ll suggest you same thing.
Also it would be usefull to know the level of knowledge you have on this matter, so we can provide you a better guide to solve your problem.
Telling someone to look for the manual is not an aid if he don´t know what to look in to it.
