Help! I've installed an unkonown CD ROM device driver and the PC will not boot up anymore, don't ask why as there was no problem in the first place!
The PC boots up as usual untill it gets to the Win 98 'cloud' screen where it stops completely. The only thing that does anything is pressing ESC. That takes me to the DOS screen with the following info on:

SDRAM in DRAM Row(s): 2

Searching for Boot record from CD ROM...Not found
Searching for Boot record from IDE-0...OK

This driver is provided by Oak Technology Inc
OTI-91x ATAPI CD ROM device driver, Rev D-91XV352
Device name : MSCD001
Transfer Mode : Programmed I/O
No of drives : 1

ATAPI IDE CD ROM device driver version V1.55
1 drives detected
unit 0, slave, IRQ14, I/O address 0x01FO

I've tried the Win 98 boot disk in the A: and nothing changes, I've also copied the boot files onto CD and tried that.

Any ideas?

Hello Dan and welcome,
How long have you let it set at this point? I just did a fresh install on a machine yesterday that hung at the same point for a minute or so at the exact same point. I was working on another machine so I was unable to get to it. It continued on its own and all is well.
If it hangs for several minutes, there may be a problem. Post back and let us know. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

Hi, I see that you have put the CD-ROM on your Primary IDE Controller as a Slave and it might not be compatible with your Harddrive (UDMA and PIO). Why don't you try to move it to the secondary IDE Controller and set it as Master.
