I am building a new computor (Tyan s1598mobo, Maxtor 20gig HD). When I try to partition the drive with fdisk it reads the total disk space as only 1954mb and says max space available for partition is 2047mb which is states is 10%. Can someone please tell me what is going on. Thanks. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hello Ranger and welcome,
If you don't have the Maxtor install disk, goHERE (http://www.maxtor.com). Click on product support, software and utilities, and follow the links to "MaxblastPlus". Download to your HDD an use this to make an install disk.
A very nice utility indeed. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Please let us know if what we suggest helps. This helps us help you better.
Newer motherboards and newer drives work best when set to autodetect in the CMOS Setup, double check and make sure it is set to auto...(eliminates any errors when entering the drive parameters).
Also when in fdisk did you select the option for large disk support?
That number looks supiciously like the 2gig limit for a FAT16 partition...
What OS did you use to make the bootdisk that you are running fdisk from?
