The error does not give any indication of what is causing the problem. I tried the step by step confirmation and the error comes after "vuser.386" question. The error will happen if I answer is Y or N. Safemode works. I tried deleting all drivers and reinstalled only the vital ones. Did a complete scandisk, scanreg, and norton scan. Still nothing. Should I move all the programs in the startup file? My guess would be bad RAM or faulty program. Please help!!!

Thanks, John

Some system information would be helpful...

About the only thing I came up with for vuser.386 is in relation to Novell software...do you have Novell network software installed?

Try this (http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/zenworks/tips/t_changes_in_ini_entries_zw.html), it is a Novell page...don't know if it is exactly what is wrong but it is a start....

Is there a network card installed?

If Yes, is client for Novell Networks installed?

If you are NOT connecting to a Novell network, they should be removed.

Thanks for the replies. The system is a HP Pavilion 7420, 166 Pentium, 32Mb Ram, 2.5G HD, with 98SE. No NIC or Novell software. I tried running the system in the diagnostic mode(In sys. config. util.). I hit "normal" on the startup menu. Then the startup menu came up again with the following underneath it.

C:\>SET CLASSPATH=C:\Program Files\PhotoDeluxe 2.0\AdobeConnectables

C:\>
C:\>
C:\>
C:\>
C:\>
C:\>

What does this mean?
I hit "normal" again. The system will boot normally. Went to system config utility again. Changed it back to normal. Restarted and still having the same problem. I'm clueless??

The address 202f-00000316 is given in the error. Is there a way to find out what program is in that address?

The link I gave you in my first post show what lines to look for in the sys.ini file. There are other things in the sys.ini file that can cause errors if you run with it disabled...so look for those ines and disable them...using msconfig. The line "set class path...." comes from the echo command being turned on in one of the configuration files, probably autoexec...it is just telling you what it is doing at that time.
