Well what i'm thinking is System Bios needs to be cached. But lets let some others chim in here, It is possable that you need more mem. but it looks like you have plenty more is good if you want to add more would not hurt.
any way can you check the temp. on the processor? In the mean time waiting for some more imput right click on my computer and properties then performance tell us what your resourse percentage is.Have you ever done a bench test if not try Here (http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/detailedsummary.asp)

ALL MS consumer OS's have memory leak. This is a well documented problem.
See:
http://www.msnbc.com/news/606135.asp?cp1=1
http://www.extremetech.com/article/0,3396,s%253D201%2526a%253D8748,00.asp
What do you mean by "long time usage"?
Hours ?
Days?
Weeks?
Does the problem resolve with a warm boot?
If this is an ME upgrade, or a factory install?
Did the problems start after the RAM was upgraded and if so how soon after?
Does removing the new RAM alleviate the problem or make it worse.
If re-booting solves it, download a freeware or sharware program that you can program to re-boot your machine for you at 1:00 AM and you'll get a fresh start every day.
Post back and let us know what's going on

Thanx for you info and time http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif .Went there about three week's ago and they said to get more ram .still say that now .
Check the temp ,, is there any way , warm air comes out the back of tower. Resources at start up .....85%, after about 8 hours of usage<to answer classic software 52%,,
And those link's probably just made the answer bite me in tha @ss http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ,,,so i guess i'll just give up in trying to fix it ,, i'll just wait the patch, if ther evel will be one ,now with XP out .. thank for your time again.

You should be at 90% or higher at start-up. Check to see what you have loading at start-up that is draining your memory by typing "msconfig" in the start> run, then choose startup, and only startup, tab. Uncheck everything except systray, and your antivirus. You say that your system slows down after 7-8 hours of use, join the club. I think I speak for most everyone when I say this. If you use your system a lot, A restart every now and then is normal. Have a great day and remember, never look in the mirror if you are on fire, it only causes you to panic.

You are suffering from memory leak. It doesn't usually happen this fast. With MS's history, don't be surpised if XP also has memory leak.....
What you need to do is start Windows
HIT CTRL+ALT+DEL once and see what comes up running.
Please post back a list of what's running. There may be something we can eliminate from start-up that will alleviate your problem.
BTW: My own PC starts out at about 85% after about 1 week of pretty heavy usage it's down to 74%. Not as bad your's....

Save time at bootup in W/Me without floppy
You'll still beable to use it when you click on the ICON my computer.
>Right click my computer
>click properties
>click performance tab
>click file sys. button
>click floppy disk tab
>clear the option to search for new floppy
I can't see any thing there I'd be willing to shut down
aparently mine is the same way i run Me to i use mine all day and the resouses will go from 85 some times down to 55 I'm still fast though go figure ZA is a big drainer we'll probobly have to wait for a patch Hmm
I would still try adding more mem. but i have a feeling Me will just allot it out to where it wants to.I haven't forgot ya though still working on it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif What is that CPqeadm?? Somthings been crawling on me though when you said somthing weird happened when you delited temp files that you got extra ICONS I don't quit know what you mean can you clarify that ??

I recommend a little read thru <A HREF="http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/res/index.htm" TARGET=_blank>
THIS</A> for those of you relating a "Memory leak" to low system resources.
RAM has very little to do with available system resources. Try this, take all but the smallest amount of RAM out of your machine, boot with only Explorer and Systray. Do it again with all of your RAM and you should see about 95+% both ways.
Tatmania, have you checked on CPU temps? Could your machine use a good onceover with an airhose? Is it inside a cabinet?
I am running ME on a desktop that is ALWAYS on. Internet, music downloads, Office, play music, web design, CD burning, network, High room temps, low room temps, side cover off the case, bla bla bla... and I just don't get the kinds of problems some of you guys are describing. I am not bragging about my machine, I just wish I could get my hands on a machine with these problems so I could experiance it first hand and know what to do to fix it.
This may be a bit of a rant, but pointing your finger at MS for everything is kind of weak. There are other OSs out there that appearently don't have these kinds of problems. I recommend Linux for anyone dissatisfied with Windows.
Sorry to get off track Tatmania http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

If I tell you to think for yourself, then you're not doing it.

Do a reboot and see if the problem goes away. If so, you would know that the problem is not with overheated CPU. Reboot with an antivirus CD (set your CMOS to boot from CD) and let the antivirus program seaches everything in your Computer for any virus.

Do You really need the Compaq easy access keyboard. See what happens When you end task. Do your resources go up? How much?
There is not much else I would disable.
Do you have the latest patches for IE?
