I installed a new power supply and no boot, then installed a new motherboard, ram, and cpu. No boot and no power indiciations?

What is next? Short in case? Bad switch? Case not connected to motherboard?

Until someone else comes along

Have you tried another PSU?

In the UK there is a fuse in the plug to the wall socket, have you checked this (if you have one)?

Try different wall socket

Try different power cable(s)

Hello georgeflyer81,

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

A little background info might be helpful also...

Is/was this a new build? Is this a proprietary computer (e.g., Dell, HP, etc.)?

Yes, hooking up the case wires to the Motherboard is critical...

It would also help to have some idea of your computer savvy. On a scale of 1-10 where would you place yourself?

Which Motherboard do you currently have? RAM?

Any further information about your system would be most helpful. The more information we have the better we can assist you...;)

I am very good and experienced at building PCs. I am seeking some guidance and experience so I don't throw tons of $$ at something that is not a big deal.

History: I live in Oklahoma where power surges and thunderstorms are frequent. This machine was brought to me by my sister and she said it would not work. I plugged it in and it smoked and sparked. I unplugged it and bought a powersupply from AMANAMAX in HOuston. A cheapie. I installed it and it would light up the power led on the case but no indication of boot. I realized then that the mother board was probably toast, so I purchased a new mother board: generic, VIA KT266A, amd CPU, DDR Ram. Now with all parts installed and jumpers correctly set I get nothing from the power supply. No lights no camera no action. I am afraid that I have toasted the new power supply by initially plugging it into the old motherboard. Any ideas? Should I locally purchase a new case? I hate to throw away $$.

Thanks,

George

If possible, test the MB, CPU, video card, and RAM on another system, or try a different PS.
If you get a display and a single beep, then you know that they're good, and that the original PS is probably the culprit.

Perhaps your on/off switch is burnt out.

Check out chart DF10a: ATX Power Supply on my Diagnostic Flowcharts available for download here www.erniek.eclipse.co.uk/downloads/sylvanderdiags.zip
or send me a personal message requesting them [zipped or not] and giving an e-mail address to send them to.
My copies are the first to be updated/amended and I send updates to those who get them by e-mail.

I installed a new power supply, still now power up or anything. I will relook at the flow chart and see what is next.
