Hiya

Ive just installed a 2nd hard disk (a Excel Stor 60Gb jobbie)
Everything went fine but I noticed that when transferring some mp3s off cd onto my hard disk it was taking a lot longer than usual...
Also when I ripped a cd the speed wouldnt rise above about 12 whereas before my hard disk was installed I was getting speeds of around 30

I was at a mates just after he installed a new hard disk and he had the same problem but I cant remember hhow he sorted it...all I remember is that when the hard disk was installed it switched something (on or off) and he had to switch it back

I know thats really vague but if anyones got any ideas as to how to solve this itd be much appreciated...or a link to somewhere that may help

Cheers

If your CD-ROM(or CD-RW drive) is on the same IDE channel as the 2nd HD, and the slow transfer rates are occurring when you're transferring data from the CD drive to the 2nd HD, then either connect the 2nd HD as Slave on IDE 1 with the primary HD, or connect the CD drive as Slave on IDE 1.

Also, check in Device Manager under the Drive's properties, to make sure DMA is enabled.
