I have a computer runnning Windows Me. The CDRW gives me this message
when I tried to browse the cd drive E: refers to a location that is not available. I thought that the cdrw was bad and purchased a new
cdrw and installed t. I get the same error when I installed the new one. I have this cd drive installled as the master and replaced the ribbon cable as well.

Trying this in dos I get volume in drive e has no label and path not found.

I get power light and spinning cd niose in both drives

PS
I don't know if it's related but my floppy disk drive is not working as well according to device manager. They are on separte ribbon cables back to the motherboard > Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

The first thing you might try is to boot into safe mode and check in device manager to see if there are more than one driver installed for each device and whether there are any problems noted. If you find more than one driver, Remove ALL of them and let Windoze reinstall on reboot. If you leave any, you will have more than one when you reboot.

When you post back, please provide more details about your system since it could be a hardware problem as well....

Also, make sure that the CD-RW drive's IDE cable is installed so that the red(or gray or blue) stripe along the one edge is next to the power cable on the back of the drive and next to pin 1 on the MB(If the connectors are registered, then you do not have to be concerned with this).

If that's ok, then connect the drive to a different power cable.
You can also check to see if the power supply's power leads are reading +12 volts if you have a voltmeter or can borrow one.
If some are not, then consider replacing the PS.

If no luck or they're ok, then if the CD-RW drive is connected to IDE 2 make sure that IDE 2(secondary controller) is enabled in BIOS, and there are no problems with it in Device Manager.

WRT the FD, if its light is on continuously, then reverse the connector's orientation at the back of the drive.
If that's ok , then make sure the FD is connected to the end connector(not the middle one) on the data cable.
If ok, then try a different data cable.
If no luck, then you can use the same procedure as for the CD-RW drive to troubleshoot it.
