Hi,
I need some advice or thoughts on why my floppy drive is in the "on" state from the minute I power my pc on until I power it off. I have a no-brand machine with a amptron xp4-930lsd mobo with an intel 1.8 gig processor. I thought maybe it was in the power supply wiring, but I replaced the feed this morning and still its read light is on all the time. I am also unable to use the drive; when I click on it with a diskette inside using windows explorer it tells to to "insert disk in drive." I've checked the mobo connections and the drive connections, all seem fine. I'd appreciate any advice and thank you in advance.

It isn't the power cable, but the flat ribbon drive cable that is connectd backwards. Flip one end of it around.

I chekced the cable and both ends have centered elevated slots to fit into their slotted receptor; the cable cannot be turned around. Any other thoughts? Thanks for your response.

Reverse the ends on the flat cable, ie put end that is on MB to floppy drive and the other one to the MB

If MJC's suggestion doesn't work, the drive is probably shot. Try it in a different computer or try another in your computer. They are cheap - $10-15 US.

I'd agree with MJC's suggestion. I had one of my old PC's with that prob. I cured it by 'forcing' the ribbon cable into the floppy drive upside down. Works perfectly then although it is a tight fit!

I guessed its maybe something like an OEM floppy drive with quirky behaviour. Saved me a whole £15 (call me cheap if u like!)
