http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif I just purchased a new pentium 4 from a company that will not honor the warranty without the packing slip. which I no longer have because I kept the canceled check. Anyhow when you turn it on you can hear the fan come on then go off like it is in sleep mode. I replaced the power supply but that wasn't it.

Hello Lildvuss, and welcome.
Recommend you get in touch with the BBB in the vendors area. They can snivel all they want but if you have proof of purchase, that is all that is needed.
Sometimes it takes a forcefull attitude to get thru to some of these people.
As for ideas to look at, which I hessitate to give, Reseat RAM, Try startup with MOBO out of case, Reseat vid card if not onboard.
Look to see if CPU fan starts when you power up. The fan you hear is probably on the power supply.

***********STOP!!!!!!!!!!!***********
Do not touch anything inside your system. This will give the deadbeat company that you bought your system from all the ammo they need to not honor their warranty. Fight them first and if you ahve reached the end with them, THEN proceed to open the case, but not until you have exhausted all of your efforts. My suggestion, have a friend act like they are a lawyer and call them and threaten to sue. This hasworked for me many times dealing with these little mom and pop stores.

Like bassman said these people wont just give a warranty. I recommend calling them up and talking to there manager, that usually gets the message across. Or talk to a rep and ask them about the warranty and if they act stupid , just hang up on them and call back and you ll get a better person, that cares.

What company is this? ...so we'll all know who NOT to call?
The first question I have to ask is this a self built system or a complete package?
If it is a self built and you bought just the processor from this place they may have a valid reason for wanting the packing slip...most loose proc come with only a short warranty period (in the neighborhood of 30 to 90 days), so they may want it not for proof of purchase but for proof of the date it was purchased. Second if it is definitely within the warranty period then go the BBB or management route. Third, if it is self built then there is no danger of further investigating to find out if it is just some sort of setup problem...you are your own tech and warranty support.
If this is a complete package then definitely stay out and haggle over the terms of the warranty...and demand satisfaction.

The company is Xtechnology and I purchased the whole computer. I have called them back and was pretty nasty with them and the person I talked with said that she would see if she could locate the info that I would need. Now I am just waiting on her to call back. Thanks for all the tips some I had no clue what ya were talking about so I am going to wait and see what they tell me.

I agree if you have just spent all that money on a pooter you shouldnt have to fix it yourself!! Especially if you are not experienced, that could cause even more trouble. I say raise some hell with the company, tell them your brother is a journalist, your sister is a lawyer, your dad is a cop, whatever!! If they get nasty, get even nastier. The last thing they want is bad publicity. My father, at the age of 75, sat on the steps of a car repair company until they fixed his car to his satisfaction. Don't take no for an answer!!
