I have 2 ATX-Mobo's (Gigabyte & Jetway, both socket 370) that won't do anything, i know for sure that every other component (cpu, ram, psu, vga, etc...) are ok, cause i've tested them on other pc's. both mobo's have probably encountered one or another short-circuit issue. could anyone tell me if there is a sort of fuse on a mobo, or can someone tell me which component on the board is probably damaged, so i can solder a new one? thanks in advance!

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

I am afraid your best bet is probably to find your friendly neighborhood hazardous waste disposer and send them to their final rest.... It could be a capacitor or several, it could be a tiny little trace that has been severed, it could be any number of things. Maybe someone with a computer lab could figure it out for you, but I doubt anyone here can diagnose it over the web... I know I probably couldn't diagnose it if it was sitting on my desk unless it was obvious enough that you would see it too.....

Place the MB's on a piece of cardboard to eliminate a shorting problem.
If that does not work, then look for any problems with the MB's capacitors(bulging, leaking, etc.).
If the above do not work or are N/A, the go with Budfred's suggestion.

Depending on when you are retiring, they could be valuable as collector's items by then...:D

hehe, unfurtunately, by the time i retire i think we have pentiumXXXIV-pc's that reach speeds of 350GHz...

So you are going to be retiring real soon then??? I suspect the when I retire (15 to 20 years at the rate my savings are getting whacked by the economy), CPUs will be running in the Terahertz....:D
