Help!
I just bought an old MSI MS-5184 Socket 7 board with an AMD K6-2 400 processor. Every component such as the PCI based sound card, modem and video card worked fine. Except for the mouse. The mouse I used is a PS/2 mouse and I tried everything from swapping it with another PS/2 mouse and a serial mouse. I even changed the ports just to be sure. I'm stumped, anybody got an idea? Appreciate your help fellas. Thanks.

Is PS/2 mouse support enabled in BIOS?

Yep. I also tried reseating the other peripherals. The thing is that windows can detect the COM and PS/2 ports. But no mouse arrow appears on-screen. By the way, the mice I used worked on other PCs. The keyboard is AT and there are no other devices using the COM ports. Ya think think that the board might be busted?

I wouldn’t go jumping to that conclusion just yet.
First Check to see that the external connectors (Small ribbon cable) are hooked to the mother board and are installed with red side to pin one. (OS and drivers see chip on board NOT device)

Second if you are attempting to hook the mouse (PS/2 or USB) to a com port with an adapter
It may not work at all.
I have seen a number of New Mice that would not work on com ports No matter what I used for drivers.
In the case of a Logitec mouse I had to edit the mouse ini file to force it to probe the com port and not the PS/2 port.
I appeared to see the port and active without finding the mouse

I tried what you guys told me and still the mouse wouldn't show up on screen. Windows and DOS can detect the COM ports but not the PS/2 port. I already enabled the PS/2 port on the BIOS yet nothing happens. IRQ 12 is free and no other resource shares it. I'm stumped again. :-(

My buddy told me to try one of those old PS/2 cards. Ya know, one of those old cards you plug in your PC so you can use your PS/2 mouse or keyboard. Do you think that will work? Anyway, if you fellas have anymore ideas, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks.
