What version of Windows are you running?

What is the file that is damaged?

When did this start, did you install or uninstall any hardware or other software recently?

Can you start windows in "Safe Mode"?

If you can boot into safe mode, try running the File Checker Utility. It can restore Windows 98 files from the install CD. You might have to use step by step startup up to allow the CD driver to load, while preventing most of the stuff that gets loaded in normal mode.

Maybe it might be easier to start over again. Use a bootable diskette and reformat all your drives. Then reinstall Windows 98. If the system is in really bad shape, you might have to use Fdisk utility to delete and recreate all partitions before formatting. Most bootable diskettes have Fdisk and the Format utilities.
