I have an MSI MSI MS-6380 0.A model mobo, with VIA ac '97 onboard sound.

It's not a k7t turbo2...but its close. I can't remember what it's called.

Anyway, I downloaded some new drivers for my sound and installed them...and with some problems, I finally got the sound working.

Then I restarted my computer.

Ever since, I've had to uninstall and reinstall the oringinal drivers multiple times...and things got crazy.

Currently I've got all my drivers working properly...but for some reason my computer no longer see's the sound card.

I've checked for new hardware a million times, and everytime I get the drivers automatically reinstalled, but it still won't see the sound card itself.

Any ideas?

Several...

What version of Windows are you running?

First, go into Device manager and roll back the driver install.

Then after that is done, go into DM again and check the box that says show Hidden Devices (there is a lottle more to that but I am not on XP right now to check the exact wording). Then REMOVE all instances of every sound device.

Then for good measure, repeat the process in Safe Mode.

If you have a list of the actual file names the drivers install, use that and delete the actual files too.....

Then finally reboot and Windows should now find it again and ask to install it.

there's nothing for me to rollback to. I never saved anything to rollback to...becuause I had never updated the drivers before, and I didn't know to do so...though I've learned my lesson.

On the other hand, when I did show hidden devices, I found a number of non-plug and play devices that were having problems...but I cant update the drivers, all I can do is uninstall them...

should I do so? I'm hoping and assuming that they should automatically reinstall after restarting correct?

Can you list some of them?

If there are problem devices then they could be part of you problem.

Too late, I deleted them already...

They were some old drivers from an old tv capture card I had...

and it didn't change a thing.

I don't get it, I have the drivers installed, they say they're working properly, but is says I have no audio device. period. very weird.
