since I´ve downloaded the divx 4 codec (from a safe site), my computer shows an error message everytime it boot up and when I press OK, the only thing i see is the desktop of win98 and my mouse´s pointer. Restart in Safe Mode does not work, I get the same results.
I´d think to restore the registry, but I can´t remember how to do it( from DOS promt, regedit or some thing like that). I´ll apreciate if anyone can refresh my memmory and/or tell me ehat else to do to solve my problem.

Yes, Scanreg /Restore is the correct command. Hold down the Ctrl key while booting. From the menu that pops up, choose to boot with Command Prompt Only.

Once at the C:\ prompt, type:

Scanreg /Restore

You will be presented with at least the last five days worth of backups. Choose a date before the download and choose to restore it. Reboot or continue as prompted.

You should be back to the point where you were before you downloaded the problems.
