My Compaq MV740 monitor has faded, "washed out" looking color until the monitor has been on for 30-40 minutes. I originally had this monitor on a 1.2 Athlon with w2k then a 1.3 Athlon with XP and now on the current set up which should show in my signature. This problem may have started showing up before moving to the current setup but I can't remember for sure. I believe it was a gradual onset and I first really noticed it on the current system. I now have a Matrox P650 videao card but there has been no change in this symptom.

I used to use a power box with outlets for monitor, computer etc. This is under the monitor. I stopped using it though but when I did I also stopped cutting power to everything once computer was shut down. So even though computer is off there is still power to monitor. I don't know if this is a problem. I tried manually turning off the monitor after the computer for several nights in a row with no improvement. I suspect some hardware component in the monitor is wearing out but would be pleased to find I'm wrong.

Any sugestions for diagnosing or fixing?

Well apparently my signature is not showing? In fact there is nothing in my signature! Lets try this. I guess it works better if I remember which board I entered a signature for.

Sounds as if the monitor is about due to be the centrepice of a funeral! It certainly seems to be on it's way out. Can you check it on another computer, or another monitor on your machine? Only real way to be certain.

I'm guessing power problems internal to the monitor itself....and yes, it is cheaper to replace than to try to have repaired.

Kind of brings back the days of pre-transistor TVS, huh?
