Hopefully someone here can help. I have Windows98se on my other pc. I was on the internet one night through Juno. I decided to sign off and install AOL. After the install I couldn't view any webpages. So I signed off AOL and back on Juno. Same Thing. Can't view page. I cleaned out my caches and all that. Tried to run my restore disk but it won't run. Tried to manually do it and still nothing. It said it failed and when I tried again it wouldn't let me go back far enough. I have no idea what to do. I uninstalled Juno and my Explorer. Still didn't help. Can someone please help? Can you tell me what could have caused this and how to fix it? Oh yeah I finally got AOL 4.0 to work but nothing higher will. I don't won't to use AOL though, now that it's like 30 bucks a month. I called them and reported it to them but they said they couldn't help. If someone has any idea what I should do please respond. Thanks. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hey and Welcome,
Hehe, like your handle. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
What probably happened has something to do with the security settings, or if you are running Zone Alarm. Been there, done that. However, that's neither here nor there now. We need to get you back up and running.
You say that you have uninstalled Internet Explorer? You need to reinstall that in order for AOL to work properly, as AOL's browser is built on the IE shell.
The best way to do that is to uninstall AOL. Use the uninstall option in Add/Remove programs. Choose a full uninstall. If you have something like Norton Utilities, do a registry cleanup after that. If not, then just defrag the harddrive.
If you don't want to run AOL, then of course you will need to reinstall Juno. If you need net access in order to do that, then you will have to reinstall whatever version of AOL you prefer and that will install IE along with it. Once installed, check the security options in the Advanced section of the Tools menu of IE. Make sure the security level is set to medium, otherwise you may have the same problems you had before with not being able to view webpages. Get online and download Juno and reinstall it. Sign off, fully uninstall AOL, run a registry cleaner if you have it, then sign on to Juno and check whatever security settings they have and make sure you are back where you started with them.
Hope this helps. Not being able to view webpages is frustrating. Been there, done that.
If you per chance do have Zone Alarm, then the story changes a wee bit. You will need to uninstall ZA along with AOL, and then reinstall it when you have Juno back up and running. Again though, check ZA's security settings to make sure you are where you want to be with that. Sometimes, if ZA's settings are set too high, you wind up with not being able to view webpages. On the other hand, if you can't run ZA on high security, then what's the use of having it? This could all boil down to conflicts between ZA and AOL though, and if it was working fine with Juno, then use it.
Post back with your progress.
Good luck.

Thanks Big Blue but that didn't help. I found a topic at microsofts website. It's how to manually restore your settings through DOS. I'm gonna give that a try and I'll post back and let you know if that helps or not. Thanks again for the help. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
