I'm dropping a 1600 XP Athlon in an A7V133 to replace an Athlon 1000 TB and apparently I need to update the BIOS on the mobo to version 1007 so it will recognize the XP processor. My question is should I do it before or after the installation of the new CPU? Thanks for the help in advance.
Ideally the new BIOS should still support the old processor...so I would do it before.

Word has it that it takes Rev. 1.05 with the A7V133 to be compatable with the XP Series chip. Due to SSE functions, etc.
The Guru's around on different forums that are using the new chip seem to agree that a Mboard with the VIA chipset needs the KT133A to be happy.
BIOS version 1005A supports the Palamino.
I may try an 1800 (off my MSI board) on a Rev. 1.04. It's my Abuse PC. Saw a item that the only problem found there was the chip was recognized as the MP. And these XP chips aren't being read in Mhz. With CPUID, etc.
In Dark Circles it is being said that the AthlonXP will see a price reduction the last week of October.
BTW. A BIOS upgrade has to be done prior to a change.

Ranchdog, thanks for the specific advice. I think I'll go for an older version but more powerful Athlon TB How about one more newbie question? Will the A7V133 v1.04 automatically recognize a 266mhz Athlon or do I need to alter the BIOS or drivers in any way?

www.amdmb (http://www.amdmb) . When you get there click on Forums/Asus Motherboards. Browse thru the pages on that forum for lots of different questions and answeres.
Anything above 1.2 really needs a BIOS upgrade. IMHO the 1.4 causes too many problems.
Luck.
