Hi, http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif

} I have a wee problem that I can't seem to resolve and thought that maybe
} you would have the solution.
}
} My pc has been acting up for the last couple of months.
} All of a sudden it cant' write to the c drive; I reboot and get this
} error:
} DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
}
} After a day or three, the pc boots up like nothing has happened.
} In the beginning it would only stay on for a couple of days and then the
} same thing occurs.
} I did a search for modified files for a week prior to the error and
} deleted them. Then everything was ok for over a month.
} The other day it happened again and it finally came back on yesterday
} but once it got into Windows, I received other error messages and
} couldn't do a thing.
} So, I said forget this and formatted it.
} I reinstalled everything and it looked just fine.
} When I checked it this morning it was hung so I rebooted and guess
} what?!
} I get the same boot error:
} DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
}
} So, do you have any idea of what is caused this enigma?
} The box is a PIII with Win95.
} I have had it for just over a year and everything was fine until about
} two months ago.
}
} Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

check here first.see if this helps if not post back

Have you tried changing the boot sequence in bios?I have enough options were sometimes it doesnt show C drive.See if changing the settings doesnt reveal your c drive as the last device or something.Just a thought

This is so intermitent. It's driving me CRAZY!!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif
The way it stands now, it's been running fine for two days.
Who knows, probably tomorrow I'll get the same error message!

YOUR HARD DRIVE IS DYING!!!!!!

Backup all of your important files and GET A NEW hard drive.

Try to download the diagnostic software from the website of the hard drive manufacturer.

Sooner or later it will NOT boot at all and your will scr$%#$@ed!

Sorry about the format......

It's still not to late to get the diagnostic software.....

It may still be under warranty...

No ranchdog, I did not.
I used the original Windows disk to format and install.

True classicsoftware, I'll try that.
And of course, when I checked it this morning it wouldn't write to the c drive while still in windows.
I reboot and get the same error message.

Is this a self built or off the shelf machine...you may still have some warranty left on the drive, if you use the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software it will give you a report that you can use when contacting them about warranty support...most drives have a three year warranty.

Still go for the manufacturers warranty. You have nothing to loose.

Sorry.

If there is any valuable data go to www.drivesavers.com. (http://www.drivesavers.com.) They aint cjeap, but they are good.

Hi,
my friend had the same problem, he can't boot up his computer.
i tried to boot using floppy, and it doesn't boot up
i also tried using bootable windows 98 cd
and it doesn't work as well
the screen have this msg
"SDRAM at DIMM #3
Searching for boot record for IDE:0 ..OK"
after that it just won't boot, it says no system something
and the computer ask to replace the disk or something.

His computer is P2 - 350 Mhz
64 Mb ram

about the rest i'm not sure.

noki you need to post your friends problem in another thread

has your friend ran fdisk and not format on the new drive(s)
if a drive isn't formated DOS will not see it read from it or write to it
it is just like trying to read an empty floppy drive

uhh, sorry, but i thought by posting on the previous thread doesn't that make a double post ?
anyway, i'll do that next time.

however my friend problem is solved already, i tried to check whether the hd was dead, and he doesn't want me to fdisk it or format it because he have very important assignment on it.
so i just hook up the hd to my comp and check whether there's something wrong with it
and it works just fine
so i hook it up back to his computer
and the same thing happen again, so i change the cmos setting
and it finnaly boot up from floppy or disk *i swear that the cmos setting changes after the first time i tried to set it up to boot up from floppy, the next time i enter cmos again, it changes to boot from ide-0 and the boot sequence is changed to cd-rom and floppy*
anyway i reinstalled the windows and it works just fine now

thanx for the reply

Noki, Try changing the CMOS battery..if it doesn't want to keep the settings between boots then the battery is weak.

Have you booted from a bootable windows floppy and run scandisk even surface scan to see what your drive looks like?If you can boot from a floppy see if you can go to the C: drive from the floppy. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

And then they made computers???????
