Hi All,
I am building my own system at the moment and have run into trouble, when I boot up the system the monitor does not come on...The cpu fan comes on as does the power led on the Motherboard..I thought it was the graphics card but I have tried 2 (Pci and vga)with no luck..any other suggestions would be really welcome.
Thanks,
Paul.

Things that come to mind right now are
- power cable / button to the screen --> no power = no picture :)
- on-board graphics enabled (this only applies if you have onboard video of course)
For further troubleshooting we're gonna need to know more about your system. Could you post some more info like what kind of mobo, processor, ram,... ,... you have?

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif
Also, do you get a POST beep?? What do you have hooked up to the motherboard at this point.
And, PLEASE do not post more than one thread to ask the same question....

Abbadon/Budfred,
Thanks for answering my post. My MoBo is an ASUS P4S8X socket 478 with celeron 2.4 ghz pc 2700 ram. I do not get a beep at boot up and have The cd rom hard drive and floppy connected at the moment.
Thanks,
Paul.
P.S Sorry for double posting.

What do you have hooked up. With a new build it is a good idea to start with a barebones boot. Leave only keyboard, CPU, CPU heatsink/fan, power, power switch, video, case speaker and one stick RAM. Try it and see if you get POST. Make sure the CPU heatsink/fan is plugged into the mobo and all other connections are good. If still no POST, take the board out of the case and try the same config on a nonconductive surface like a piece of cardboard. If still no POST, you probably have a bad mobo and/or CPU. Try different sticks of RAM if possible....

Hi Budfred,
I did as you suggested and it worked!!! thanks...but I'm having another problem loading the operating system. I'm trying to put win 2k pro on to my machine It will install all the files from the cd boot but when I reboot after initial installation i'm getting the following error.... NTLDR is Missing..press any key to restart...this message keeps coming up until you restart with ctrl, alt+del above that there is another message .... ERROR-Can't write ESCD, again I would really appreciate your help with this if you can.
Thanks,
Paul.

What turned out to be the problem???
For the other problem you are having, I don't have an answer for you. What I would suggest is to post a new thread in the Windows forum and ask for help. Use a descriptive title like: "NTLDR error" so the experts know what you are looking for and provide as much info about your computer and the problem as possible....

Hi Budfred,
