I just upgraded my system (Win2K system) with XP, and new Asus A7N8X Deluxe, Processor, RAM. I'm using the same hard drive that I used before the upgrade. I also had a second hard drive in the system that worked fine before the upgrade.

Problem: When I try to access the second drive now, all I get is the following error message.

I tried it in another XP system and I get the same thing. I checked the jumpers and tried master, slave and cable select. Same thing.

I have files on it that I'd really like to have back. Did I toast the drive or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Are you certain that drive E: is the second hard drive? Is your optical drive still drive d:, or have the designations changed?

Assuming that it is, is the drive recognised in the BIOS, and is the bios set to autodetect?

In device manager, is the drive listed?

More questions than answers, I'm afraid, but it might suggest some more checks to make.

It is recognized in BIOS and it is displayed as the E drive under "Hard Drives". I don't know why it wasn't assigned D.

Thanks for the input
