I'm working on an older AT, 233mhz, motherboard?? I installed the WIN98 and it found the modem and video card just fine. There is a Creative CT4750 PCI sound card. It didn't find the card; there is no volume symbol on the taskbar; but the volume control is checked in windows setup. Speakers are correctly attached. Should I assume that the sound card is dead or is there something else I can try. The sound card was not in the pc when I started working on it. They had given their old sound card to a relative and all I had on hand is this older Creative one. When I did the WIN98 install, I just let Windows install whatever it wanted. What else do I try before giving up?

In Control panel>system>device manager, does the soundcard show up or are there any unknown devices shown?

As you know the make/model of the soundcard, I would suggest that you download the drivers for that card, and install them. You can probably find the drivers at
Soundcard-drivers.com (http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/).
