I have a Sony vaio pcg fxa35/d laptop that goes into a continuous loop when it starts up. This is the message I get
"pxe-e61:media test failure. pxe-mof:exiting pxe rom"
I ran the dos base diagnostic program Spinrite on this computer and I got this message.
"Spinrite's interrupt system temporal noise test has detected a great deal of activity within this system, creating a substantial level of interrupt activity. This results in unstable responses to hardware interrupt events, rendering subtle timing tests quite unsure"

Can anyone help,
Thanks.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif .

First thing I would do with that error is go into the BIOS and check the boot sequence is correct.

PXE usually refers to the network boot ROM that allows computers to boot off a server without requiring a hard drive (among other things).

If you are not on a network it may help to disable any onboard network cards in BIOS to make sure they are not interfering with a normal boot.

I have disabled network cards in the bios but that did not fix the problem.

Since Spinrite is a DOS program that checks your HD's condition, it's possible that the HD may either be failing or has failed.

I tried the hard drive in another computer and it worked fine.

If it starts in Safe mode, then disable Spinrite, start normally, and check Device Manager for IRQ problems.

If it does not start in Safe mode, then there's a hardware problem.
You may have to swap out components to find the bad one.

If it worked in another computer, then check the connection between the hard drive and the motherboard, might be a faulty cable or connector.
