View Full Version : Why can't I hear Dictionary sound?

Do I have a missing file? My laptop speakers work fine for everything...playing music CDROM, radio station on the web except when...
some of the dictionary sites have speaker icons that you can click to hear the pronunciaton. No sound is heard...tried other dictionary sites...same thing.

I would take a look at your Internet Properties in Control Panel and look under the Advanced Tab...
Down under MultiMedia you would need to have enabled the listings having to do with playing sounds on Web Pages...

All multimedia boxes checked except "Don't display media online content in the media bar". Tried checking that box and still cannot get the pronunciation sound. Any other suggestions?
Could you give a link to the site? I just want to see what they are using for the audible stuff.

Looks like it uses a simple .wav file.

just tested at the Mariam Webster dic. site. The pronunciation playback was instanteous...thanks everybody for the input.
