I am in need of testing software to test computer systems for crashes, bad hardware, and bad OS install. Shareware or freeware preferably.

Does anyone know of a place to find these?

Thanks in advance.

Ok I will keep searching for others too. I just finished downloading the program you suggested and it is running as I type. Seems like an awesome program and I am sure it will help. At least it will run longer than the BurnInTest program I downloaded before (it is shareware only runs for 15 mins).

Thanks for the info and big assist!

I am new at all this but let me try. Fix it 3.0 has the best system diagnostics, but it will delete way to many files and causes more promblems then it solves. I use norton utilities, but you have to watch what it fixes, it is hell on shortcuts, but does a pretty good job of diagnostics. But I have learned to use all the tools in windows and let them do there thing. Most of the software I have used causes more problems then they solve. Maybe one day I will be a pro too. Thanks Andy

Thanks Andy. But I am not looking for diagnostic software as in problem scan and fix. What I am looking for is software that will test the hardware with for example alot of reads/writes to the memory, hard drive, and processor. This is to make sure that the hardware is working correctly.

I am also testing to make sure that the installation is good. This is the third clean installation and the others gave Kernel32.exe errors and pretty much just crashed.

I just wanted to reclarify what I was looking for.

Thank you again for replying Andy! I really appreciate it and it does help with other issues I have. Though I am aware of Norton Utilities and It works great for me though you are right it can mess things up pretty good. Most of the time when I am having those kind of problems I back up my data and reformat and start all over. Honestly that is easier.

Don't know where you stay, (country that is) but if you stay in the UK buy Issue 99 of "PC Answers" (Best Computer mag on the market) (You may be able to get it in other countries as well)
In this issue they are giving away "PC Certify" a complete \ full diagnostic program. (retails at about £350.00) This is a 1 YEAR evaluation edition. FULL with NO restrictions.

I bought a book called Troubleshooting, Maintaining, and Repairing PCs by Stephen J. Bigelow and it had a CD with 120 utilities and diagnostic tools. I have not used the CD has all 3 of my systems are working fine. I have found just the book is worth the price. I have used it quit a bit. I am an old frat trying to learn and have made every mistake that you can make on a computer and still have alot to learn, but my mind is not what it once was and I get upset because I am not learning that fast. The best to you and one day I will be a pro too Thanks Andy( I would buy the book) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
