I just finished a new build with an ASUS A7N8X mobo there are 3 memory slots at present I have 256mb in slot #1 and #2 [ total of 512]

I want to install a total of 1024mbs if I use slot #1 with a 512mb stick and slots #2 and #3 with the sticks of 256mb--
The memory is Corsair XMS DDR pc-3200.

If I can do it this way I save $$$$ otherwise I have to buy 2 sticks of pc 3200 DDR 512mb at $108 from Newegg--------I can really use the 1024mbs the way I use this compoter.

Any help in this matter would ne great---Thanks Paul

Usually the size of the sticks doesn't matter...so yes, your 2 256MB and a 512MB stick should work together.

If you place the 256 MB sticks in positions 1 and 2 (channel 1 of dual DDR) and place the 512 in position 3 (channel 2 of dual DDR), then I think you can run all of the memory as dual DDR.

By the way, what application are you running to use that much memory?

Thanks Guys-------As far as the "can really use the 1024" part of my post it should really read " really want" I just gave my Son my 2 yr old Dell Diminsion 8200 and built this ASUS AMD 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ Im really just into messing around and playing hi-end games [ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AIW ]--Im aware 512 is the sweet spot for most everything---Im just a 67 yr old kid having fun--this is my 6th build [gave then to Grandkids] and the 1st one Im jazzing up.

Im trying to match the Cas Latency as close as I can to the 256 sticks, is close good enough ?? The Latency I see in the BIOS is different the what CORSAIR says it is ?? does the stated Latency of 2-3-2-6 1T change if you overclock the CPU ??

Thanks Paul

It might.....because (I'll use some older PC133 mem for the example, and just one of the latency numbers....), at one FSB setting it has a latency of 2 (at FSB of 100) and at 133 a latency of 2.5 (those are th actual numbers off of one of my PC 133 sticks in this dinosaur....)
