does anybody know why, when I recently built my new comp. using a 1Ghz chip and ABIT KT7A motherboard, that the BIOS showed it initially as 750Mhz. This I changed in the BIOS to the correct 1Ghz. However my system keeps getting run-time errors,freezes and is slow accessing explorer and menu options. When the BIOS is set to optimize the system, it reduces the chip speed to 750Mhz! Anybody know why it should do this? Is there the posibility I've been supplied with 750Mhz chip?

About the CPU.
If you look at the chip-die itself on an Athlon/Duron CPU, you will see three rows of #'s and letters. The first thing on the top row is the clock speed of the CPU. In your case it will read 1000.

The last letter of the top row denotes either B or C. B= 200 series (100 Front Side Bus speed) or C= 266 Series (133 Front Side Bus speed).

The B Series and the C Series use a different built in default multiplier because of the two different FSB speed settings. ie: (B)FSB speed 100 a 1Ghz will use a multiplier of 10. (C)FSB speed of 133 a 1Ghz will use a multiplier of 7.5

Your readings tell me you are dealing with a CPU that has a multiplier of 7.5 so the Front Side Bus speed will need to be set at 133.

You should have a jumper on the Mboard to use 100/133. Set for 133. Remove the CMOS battery while you shoot a game of darts. To clear CMOS. Re-install battery and boot-up. Go to Bios and try default settings for a while. Save and exit. If things are kopesetic then try optimize.
