A friend of mine's computer will reboot itself at random times. It will run for several hours and all of a sudden reboot. Sometimes it won't start when the power button is pressed on. This computer is about a year old and this problem has just started. The power supply has been replaced and didn't help.
any ideas?
thanks

Most likely a hardware related issue. Possibly the processor running hot, a faulty video card or a fan would be good things to check

Where else would you rather be than right here right now

Gallaeglagh thanks for the reply, one thing I forgot to mention is that when it reboots it self it doe's a scan disk like it was shutdown improperly....this happens rather it's being used or just sitting there running.

Please post the specs of the machine.
How many slots? and how many are filled.
This also may be a heat issue. Try ruuning with the case opens and see if it improves.
If all the slots are filled up, you might need a larger more powerfull power supply. A large number of companies are using only 145 watt power supplies in order to save money.

Ok my friend has brought the computer to me. After plugging everything in and hitting the start button, it got as far as the Windows 95 logo and then rebooted itself and than just set there with a black screen. Now I can't seem to even get it to boot up to the logo anymore, Sometimes I do see the screen part with the ram count and stuff but not always. I have tried another "working" video card, and another cmos battery.
please help,
thanks
This system is:
Windows 95
Pentuim 2
233 MHZ
32 megs ram

Udate! At the time the computer is up and running YEAH! I put "another" new power supply. Geez what's the chances of a new power supply being bad.
Anyways I'll keep it running and see if it still wants to do random boot ups.......but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't.
Thanks to everyone that replied.
