Very soon I'm intending to remove the motherboard I have in one PC and ""transplant" it to another PC.

My question is whether the components in the mobo(the memory chips & cpu assembly)need to be removed before taking out the mobo or whether the mobo can be taken out without any such removal.

Thanks

I can believe you can take it out with cpu, hsf and ram still on it. It would be a hassle to try and take those of while the mobo is still inside the case, especially for small cases.

You can certainly take it out with RAM and CPU attached. We often recommend installing the CPU before you put the mobo in the case anyway... Just make sure all the cables are disconnected, protect against ESD and move carefully....

As already posted, it's fairly simple to transplant a motherboard with CPU, HSF and RAM installed.

However, if it has been a couple of years since the HSF was installed, it would be a good idea to re-install it with some fresh thermal paste.
