I have Just been given a Patriot PBC400/1 PentII
I am having a problem when booting if I dont do anything computer hangs on windows blue screen
as i watch booting process i see mem ok hard disk cdrom and then updateing escd successful then adapti cd rom failure
the computer will start up in safe mode only

can any one advise

Make sure jumpers are set and connections are secure , then try and boot up.

have tried as you suggested problem still there (also disconeected cd rom )
no joy

Check out this post

Then disable cd-rom boot device in the bios.

This should stop the error message.
Then you can start working on why it only starts in safe mode.

i have disabled cd rom in bios set uop
before i done this i checked cdrom on another computer its ok
i then replaced ide cable
then replaced hard drive
on bootup computer still offers hard disk or cd rom start up then will only boot up in safe mode
i have had a bad sunday
