I'm trying to upgrade my computer. I just bought a soyo k-7 dragon motherboard and it came with a AMD 1.4 ghz cpu and 256 meg of 2100 ram. When I first put everyting together I was getting a series of beeps and I tried following the manual to fix the problems. Now, however, I am getting no beeps at all. The power is working, the cpu fan is on. Drives, when I had them connected were getting power, etc...

So, I'm getting no beeps, I've even tried to isolate the mobo from the case and still nothing. Any thoughts? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Did you try to put the cmos jumper on the other setting, that might be it. Did you put the heatsink fan on your self , or did it come already on there? If you put it on there make sure its on right , and it should have tape on the bottom, and or put grease on manually.

Hey!

DO NOT put grease on an Athalon chip! It requires the thermal phase change tape, not the regular thermal tape or thermal grease!

Heatsinks that are recommended for the Athalon should already have the thermal phase change tape on them. Do not use thermal grease.

Duron and Athalon chips come with four rubber pads already mounted on the die. The tape on the heatsink should be strategically placed so as to cover the little square processor chip. Grease would make a heck of a mess and most likely would not work to cool the chip.

As for the booting problem, reseat the RAM and video card.

I think I've made progress.?. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif I went out and upgraded my power supply from a 200 watt to a 300 watt. Now I get a beep, only one, but still no display. What next?

Usually it the video card, is it agp? Try another video card(pci card). Make sure its in tight too.
