re: total power failure

Could a power failure be caused by a bad card. You should still see and hear the PS fan run though, right? unless the whole motherboard is shot.

Am I to assume that if my working Power Supply from my computer does not work on my friend's system than it would be a motherboard problem.

I am going to hook up my PS to his system to see if it runs.

this forum is a good one.

K
is the PSU AT or ATX
does it turn off on its own or does it wait for you to switch off

If the PSU does work on your mates PC then yep i would look towards the M/Board as the MAYBE??? prob.

If your PSU fan stopped cooling it before the Power failed. You may have cooked it! If your lucky it may have not damaged the M/Board or other devices

PS the reason i asked if it was AT/ATX is due to i have fixed PC's where the main Mechanical Turn On/Off switch which controls the PSU On/Off state and is directly connected to the PSU by a large wire ... Has failed !! ( £2 to fix max?)

if the PSU is AXT it will have Two rows side by side (not end to end "single line as AT") and will not have a main switch as this State is controled by the M/Board.

Any way enough Blabbing Good luck
