I recently used the restore pack on my pc and since then ive been unable to convert bitmap files into jpeg.I used to use paint to do this but now it doesnt give me that option.The drive is using a Fat32 system and it does say thats not compatable with compression agents but i could still compress the files before i used the restore pack and i don't understand why i can't now.Can you help me with this please,

First, let's correct the terminology. Disk compression means compressing the data on the entire drive. Bad idea...What you want to do is file compression. Not a problem, really, and jpeg files are almost always compressed to some degree.
To do it, you might look into some image editor applications such as ACDSee (http://www.acdsystems.com/) or Irfan View (http://www.irfanview.com/), or some of the commercial apps like Photo Impact, Paint Shop Pro etc.
What OS are you using? Win98 has Kodak Imaging, which works fairly well and I think might be able to save pictures in different formats, but not positive since I'm not sitting in front of my 98 machine. Seems XP has it too but I can't remember.
Also, I have links to some files that will restore the default file types for Paint (which should be more than just bmp).
