I just installed a new motherboard after my last one failed. But now, after I turn on power, the power supply fan comes on, the CPU fan comes on, and the motherboard lights flicker. The problem is that this only lasts for about 1-2 seconds, and then the whole system powers down. I've had systems hang before, but not power down. What can cause this?
Thanks in advance!
Jeff
Remove all cards from the motherboard i.e.network/sound/display, then power on, see if the same happens, if the power stays on this tells you it must be one of the cards, install cards one at a time, using the power on / power off process, this will allow you to figure out if its the motherboard or a specific card....
I`ve only come across this one before and the cause was a faulty Voodoo 2 display card (PCI),,,,about 12 months ago. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Thanks for the advice. I removed all peripherals and cards, and it still didn't work. Then, I took the CPU out and at least everything stayed powered. Then, I put the CPU back in, the auto-shut-off occurred. Looks like I also zapped my processor along with my motherboard. Dang!
Thanks, again.

jeff....
Some CPU fans can't be plugged into the fan header on the Mboard. They just pull to many amps. Especially the Heavy Duty ones. Causes a problem such as you have.
Example: My Delta Black Label CPU fan
cannot be plugged into the Mboard.
Also, some Power Supply's are weak on the -5vb line and the CPU will not power up.
Don't be bashful about checking the RAM.
Luck.
