Is this easily done? How do you do it? Is it legal?

I just bought a great DVD the David Gilmour concert from 2002. Highly recommend to any Pink Floyd fan. There are some great songs on this DVD inlcuding a rendition of Elvis' "Don't"! This concert is not available on CD.

My system:

1.0 GHz Athlon T-Bird
32MB ASUS V-7100 Pure GF2 MX 400
512MB Crucial RAM
60GB Seagate Barracuda ATIV HD
ASUS A7V133 motherboard
Creative SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1 sound
MusicMatch Jukebox Full edition.
Lite On DVD ROM 16x (48x24x48x CDRW) Basic Nero software came with drive. CyberLink PowerDVD for DVD viewing and of course InterActual DVD for DVD ROM features.

Do I just try to record from MusicMatch or is that going to give me an "incompatible or unknown file" message?

I would like to be able to listen to this music at work etc.

Thanks for your suggestions!!

RE: legality.... The RIAA is trying to say all copies are not okay. Legal precedent says you can make copies for your own use. It will probably turn out to be legal if anyone ever invests the funds required to take it to the Supreme Court and get a new precedent set. In the meanwhile, you take a risk as a consumer if you make your own copy...

Also, there is a very good chance the DVD is copy protected, but if it isn't and you can find the files, it should be possible to copy it....

Thanks Budfred!

I see you what you are talking about....same old same old regarding the legality issue.

On a good note...this can be done. There is software for extracting audio from DVD's to convert to mp3. The one major hit I am getting is from the www.imtoo.com site. After reading clips from other google hits I get an uneasy feeling about this software/software maker. Doesn't seem very professional, maybe I'm just too cautious. $30 for the software..there were only 2 reviews...one Nay & one Yea...ugh! But mention of this software is all over the net.

Thanks for your time. Looks like I got some more research to do....I just posted in the likelihood that someone here already had an idea.

Hehe!!!! Sweetness comes with playing around with your toys!

All I did was:

Fire up MusicMatch and change the recording source from DVD ROM drive to System Mixer
Open the Creative Mixer
Fire up PowerDVD and press play
Finally press record on MusicMatch (default set to encode at 128kb in mp3 format)

This is too much...how could this have been so easy!

Now, I can record whole shebang as one big file or sit here and individually record each track to my liking (on the dvd it allows for track to track playback)!

This is my lucky day....On top of this find....I was able to take tomorrow off of work :)

Thanks for the links....I'd imagine the process would be a tad more stable and configurable by nabbing some of the software listed...for now I am happy though!
