My friends newly installed system, (W2K Pro) seems to constantly reboot randomly when he is surfing using cable modem. He didn't bother to install any of his appropriate drivers and just let windows handle it. I am thinking that this might be the problem. He also has a really old legacy ISA sound card which was not identified by windows and had no drivers at all. I'm just wondering what you guys think and if anyone has experienced anything like this before. (it also gives him an error message about the file allocation table but it goes by too fast before it reboots for him to get details, I don't know if defrag or scandisk will work since the OS is on and old but newly formatted HD) Thanks.

Hey,

Sounds like it's most likely due to a corrupted FAT. (File Allocation Table)

Have him run a thorough ScanDisk. See if that fixes it.

As for the ISA component, see if you can find a driver for it. Find out what make and model it is and then do a search. If you can find a driver, run the Add New Hardware wizard and when prompted, point it to the place where you put the driver.

Good luck.
