The modem I am working with came in a box (not retail) that says ZOOM. Nothing on the modem identifies it as such. I need to find out who made this and if there are init strings I can add. The modem takes one to two minutes to connect! Once connected no problems. I had a Creative Labs modem several years ago that did this and a tech added a string and all was fine. On the chipset there are these numbers FS-003 0334; HSF1; CX1252-11; E394616-1; 0326. On the other side is printed V92. Since V92 is not activated in our area, I assumed the modem would drop down to V90. Could this be the problem for the slow connect? Any way to ide this modem. It came with a driver cd but no manual, etc.

I followeed the link over to ZOOM then internal v92. I didn't find or missed the info as to how to identify the installed modem. One item missed in my first description which I will probably misspell; Conexant. I assume that is just the chip name. Being a resale shop item, the modem could be almost any make.
Yes, it is a Conexant, and yes it can be any "make", but if you go to the Conexant site ( http://www.conexant.com/support/md_supportlinks.html ) and continue on to the Modem Driver page, there is an ID utility that should help you out some.
