Hi Guys,
I have 2 256Mb (Generic?)DDR installed in my rig and was working allright then, but just last night I noticed during boot up that I now only have 256 Mb of physical memory. I checked it in Windows and I really have 256 Mb . I tried this "cpu-z" and it shows the memory (one at a time)but all the parameters are grayed -out. What's the problem here? Is there any program (inside Windows or third party) that can check memory cards? Please help.

Simple to use and a freeware download ...DocMemory (or Memtest86). But if the memory isn't being detected there will be nothing to diagnose.

Have you tried reseating the memory boards?

Swap the boards ,remove one and see what happens if one boots your computer and the other will not you have your answer---just use one at a time and use the SAME slot for either---as a loose rule the slot near est the CPU should be used 1st. It sound as though one stick bought the farm, its toast. If your lucky you can remove the sticks [boards] clean them with a pencil eraser and reseat them and as I said you might get lucky.
