Hi i am using a Time computer 64 mb ram Amd proceesor Win 98 OS,
heres my problem

I have just purchased a Sony 16x10x40 cdr (internal), I put it in the pc connected it up booted the pc back up. When i looked in my computer instead of having 2 cdr it said i had about 10.

However i backed up a programe and it copied fine, but on my sewcond attempt at backing up a music cd i got this error....

ATAPI ERROR

PLEASE CHECK ATAPI CONNECTION

1)Check ATAPI cable , terminal and id
2)Change disk...(which i have)
3)restart computer, HDD drive

The only thing i dident do when i was putting the cdr in the pc was
change the jumper settings, could this be at fault

Massive thanks in advance and i hope i make sense.

If the jumpers are not properly set then it would not be properly recognized, also did you set the BIOS to auto-detect it or diid you try to set it up manually?

Hi, i'm west brom fc's mate , i am the one trying to install it for him.

It recognised it was there straight away, but the jumper settings for it looks like there set to master, could this be the problem. Also for that perticular drive i have like ghost drives all the way upto l: lol.

should i try the jumper settings first or the bios

if i go into bios do i just click all to AUTO or just my new drive????

Also is it this problenm thats causing me to have so many ghost drives
big thanks for replying to last post

and massive thanks for help with this

P.S im on my own pc now im going back to tackle it tomorrow)

Set the new one to auto, all rest at auto isn't a bad idea either.

Also are you trying to set it up on its own IDE channel or as a slave to an existing CD drive? If you want to be by itslef then leave it at master...

After that go into Safe Mode to remove the ghost drives...actully once you have it set up (jumpers and BIOS) remove all the duplicated CD drives and let Windows reinstall the one...(hopefully)

Does this machine meet the minimum hardware requirements for the drive?

You may also want to try a new ribbon cable (if a new one didn't come with the drive).
