Hi Folks,

A friend gave me an old AOpen computer. Or at least MOST of a computer.

Got a new power cord, IDE cable, mouse, used keyboard. Put the whole thing together, plugged her in and nothing...zippo...nada. No lights, no fans...no action.

Before I buy a new powersupply, anything else I should be checkin'?

Do you have a way to check voltage of power supply? That is where I would start. Double check all you connections. Check the switch for power.

One day I will be a pro, Thanks Andy

Hi Andy,

I don't have a multimeter here. Since I'm gittin' no function from anything, I'm presuming no power is leavin' the p/s. No p/s fan.

In the mornin' I'll go down to the local shop, have them test the new power cord and if that checks out I'll get a new power supply.

Tryin' to get this thing functioning is my weekend project.

Steve....

Some of the older PSU's had a fuse in 'em. Worth a look.

Luck.

Follow Ranchdog on this one buddy! Nothing I hate more then spending money on a free machine to make it work http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Test everything before you buy. Wall socket, powercord(swap with one that is working), switch on the back of case, Fuse, MOBO connection, switch on front of case,.... you get my point.
One of the best feelings I get is keeping a free machine FREE.

Thanks guys,

Heh heh, 5amp 250v fuse. 45 cents.

Boots up but dosen't access the HDD. It's the HDD that's runnin' without a cover so I don't hold out a lot of hope. We'll see...
