I have Windows NT 4 and have 2 USB ports. I can not install the USB because the add hardware function is missing from the control panel so is the device hardware. I am not very familiar with WinNT 4. I'm sure it's hidden somewhere. I can plug into the USB port and my light on the external device responds. Any help appreciated.

Welcome Idocker1.
Unfortunately I think you're first question isn't going to have a good end.
NT does not support USB and I've never found anything that will make it do so.
I would be very interested if anyone else has found anything though.:)

Jabberwocky is correct, NT does not support USB. Windows 2000 does support it.
The lights coming on mean you have good hardware but not the OS to support it.

Please run, don't walk to the computer store or get a copy on line. Upgrade to Windows 2000. You will be amazed at the performance increase you will get with Win2K over WinNT.
I am presently using a P-III 667 with 128MB ram. It cam with NT, but I was shocked when I upgraded to Win2K. The performance increrase was easily 20%. One caveat. You may have to flash your bios. Please check with the pc-manufacturer or the webisite of your mobo manufacturer.
You'll get USB and increased speed.

I did once find third party software that allowed NT to use USB ports but it was expensive and I now seem to have lost the link.
