My computer keeps restarting for no reason every once in a while.
Does this mean my computer might be overheating?? How can I
correct this problem??

Could be your power supply. Is the fan in your supply blowing out warm air? Cool air? Is the fan in the supply on? Does it restart after its been on a while? Is the fan on the processor working? Is your power cable (from the outlet to the power supply) being pinched, bent or under furniture?
Try and recall when it first started to happen (i.e after the power went out, after you installed another drive, etc.) Looking for a possible connection...

Hey,
In addition to the above, it might be time to take the case off, and blow out all the dust bunnies. Get yourself a can of compressed air and blow out the inside, being careful not to blow off any jumpers, etc.
Post back with your progress.
Cheers,

My system is a Dell. Im running Windows 98.
It just started happening about a week ago. The ps fan is
blowing out pretty cool air. My computer gets dusty here really
really fast. Maybe if I just clean out the dust?? It only resets after
its been on a pretty long time.

Be carefull w/ the compressed air. 1 tip is to hold your fan so the blades don't get damaged by excessive rpm's. Pay attn to cleaning out the heat sink, since this is where heat is dissipated.
If problem persists, L http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gifK into upgrading your cpu fan (HSF) & using quality thermal compound. Case fans are also inexpensive. I recommend these guys --> http://1coolpc.com/home/

This is a help forum, so subject lines like "HELP!!!" or "I have a question" are not very useful. Consider, if everyone used descriptive subject lines, it would be easier to search to see if that question or a similar one has already been asked & answered.

"Help" has long been a standard subject line. I realize that a more descriptive one would often be very useful, but it just doesn't happen that way. Someone frantically searching for a solution to a sudden problem with their $1500 machine might not think of much else...
Let'em use "Help", we'll live through the experience I think... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

yep I understand the pleas desperation...
Search>Subject>HELP (http://www.PCGuide.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?action=intro)
in the last 30 days,
40 hits of HELP
17 of Non-Desriptive HELP
6 HELP only
7 HELP me or please
but if later on you find a answer/link to the problem, you'll have a devil of a time finding the original thread!

Ok, I opened up my machine and the dust was unreal. The machine was covered with dust 2 inches thick. That was probably my problem. If my computer keeps messing up Ill look into a new case fan or something. Thanks for all the advice guys and next time I won't use "need help" as a subject line :-) Peace!

You may want to check into a case fan anyway...it seems like the fan(s) you have are all sucking air into the case, and relying on the opennings to exhaust it. If you get a fan install it so it blows air out....
