I have a 6 month old pc that has suddenly developed problems booting. It runs the memory check then stops on "wait". There is only one beep. I then went into the bios and did an auto search on the hDD/CD drives (I have 2 hdd and 1 cd drive and a cd re-writer), the bios couldn't recognise these. I've checked all the cables etc. Any idea's of where to go next.
PC chips 810lmr board
Athlon t/b 1000 chip
256mb pc133 memory
4.2gb hdd
2.1gb hdd
16x cd rom
CD-RW
Running Windows 98se.
Thanks
If you bought it from a dealer and it has a warranty then your best be would be to follow up on warranty service...

No it wasn't bought from a dealer so no warranty. I've located what I though was the problem a fauly Cd-Rom drive, I've taken that out changed all the cables. The 2 HDD's are now found and working ok BUT when I reconnect the CD-R back to square one, as soon as I disable it its ok. I'm either going batty or my pc is haunted!
Can anyone out there come up with any idea's? Please?
OK, so with the Cd installed it doesn't work...make sure that the jumpers are set properly on it (yes they can just wiggle loose and fall off), if it isn't a jumper problem the I would say the drive is gone...

Just tried the CD-Rewriter in another pc and it works ok. Jumpers are ok, I've cleared the BIOS and started again. Same problem. ARGHHHH
