After shutdown, instead of turning itself off, it reboots. Have
to unplugg immediately aftr shutdown is complete. Then of course
the next time I turn it on, we go through the scan disk routine.
A real drag. Please advise

Don't know why it's doing that, Laura, but it's probably not a good idea to turn the power off at that point. Of course, you have no choice until you find out what the problem is. Until you do find out, I think a better option for you when you go to shut it down is this: Instead of clicking on "Shut Down", it might be better to click on, "Restart In MS DOS Mode". When it gets into DOS Mode, you can then turn the power off. I think it's better to turn the power of while in DOS. I'm pretty sure I'm right on that, but I have been know to be wrong before. So, I hope you can find someone smarter than I am (and that shouldn't be too hard to do) that can solve your problem for you. Have a good day.

What OS?
If you are running 98 try hitting <f8> at the reboot...and then select <6>, then when it is there just hit the power switch...it will shut off.
